RAMP

A Pilot Study of a Remote Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Monitoring Program (RAMP) for Children in Rural Areas

Learn more about the RAMP study HERE.

A pilot study examining the use of an Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Monitoring Program during initial stages of treating ADHD in children living in rural and underserved settings, the Remote ADHD Monitoring Program (RAMP) will include provider ADHD Best Practice education, caregiver, and teacher prompts for frequent RAMP Reports of inattention and hyperactivity symptoms and a provider dashboard with enrolled children. The RAMP Report includes the publicly available Vanderbilt Rating Scales, a commonly used guideline-recommended tool for both diagnosis and management of ADHD, for use by parents and teachers. Additionally, school performance, medication side effects and behavioral therapy engagement will be solicited on a recurring basis.

RAMP is a multicenter trial as part of the ECHO Program IDeA States Pediatric Network (ISPCTN), designed and led by Claire MacGeorge, MD, MSCR from Medical University of South Carolina. The study will take place in two ISPCTN states utilizing four clinics that serve rural and underserved children and families. For this pilot study, children diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed stimulant treatment will be the focus of efforts to improve time to optimal symptom control to maximize the treatment benefit for the academic year.

Participants will include dyads of caregivers and children aged 5-11 years with stimulant-naïve diagnosis of ADHD (can be new diagnosis or prior diagnosis without stimulant treatment) or have not received stimulants for the last 3 months. They must attend one of the four participating practices and start on stimulant medication for treatment of ADHD. The study will take place over 17 months.
